Seble grew up in rural Ethiopia, surrounded by simplicity, but driven by dreams of a better life. Like many young women, she left her homeland to work in an Arab country, hoping to support her family and build a brighter future, but life had different plans. While working abroad, she fell gravely ill and was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor. Her world shattered. She returned to Ethiopia for what was supposed to be six months of treatment: tough, uncertain months filled with pain and fear. Doctors told her she wouldn’t be able to conceive. But life surprised her once again! Amidst her struggle, she met a man through a friend. Against all odds, she got married and gave birth to beautiful twins. After three years, she had a third child, a son. But on the very day he was born, her husband walked away, leaving her alone with three little ones and a broken heart. It was the most painful chapter of her life. She couldn’t even observe the traditional rites of motherhood. But she had no choice; she had to live, fight, and survive for her children.
Seble began working tirelessly at whatever side job she could find like cleaning houses, cooking, doing whatever she could to put food on the table. Then, another storm came. Her daughter went through a traumatic experience that forced her to stop working altogether. Her attempts to find work again were met with exploitation and disappointment. And just when she needed strength the most, she lost her mother, her pillar, her comfort, her everything.
At the edge of despair, Seble heard about Tabitha Reach Ethiopia.
“At first,” she says, “I thought Tabitha would be like any other organization to train me, give me a little money, and then forget me. But I was wrong. Tabitha changed my life.” Through Tabitha, Seble received more than skills. She found hope. She was trained again and again, empowered, and placed in a supportive team. She was taught how to care for herself with dignity and walk with her head held high even in the simplest clothes, clean and proud.
“Now, thank God, I am a hero,” she says with a smile that tells a story of endurance. Seble is raising her children with love and strength. And God is rewarding her and the children she once feared she might never have, who are now thriving, gifted, and full of promise. Through Tabitha, she has learned gratitude, strength, forgiveness, and self-worth.
“I’ve learned how to work, how to dress, how to take care of myself, and how to dream again.”
Seble’s story is not just about survival. It’s about transformation from pain to purpose, from abandonment to empowerment, from fear to faith.
